Did you know.. that today is also known as “St. Bridget’s Complaint”. It is believed this tradition was started in 5th century Ireland when St. Bridget complained to St. Patrick about women having to wait for so long for a man to propose. According to legend, St. Patrick said the yearning females could propose on this one day in February during the leap year.

In a constant effort to find and reference interesting articles about St Patrick, here’s another easy read about St Patrick. There were some interesting references to other works regarding the Saint as well as a few tidbits I never knew. For instance, St Patrick was the first prominent Catholic Bishop to rail against the institution of slavery.

“Not surprisingly, his own experience in captivity left Patrick with a virulent hatred of the institution of slavery, and he would later become the first human being in the history of the world to speak out unequivocally against it.”
